The current chairman of the department of political science is Professor Shiow-duan Hawang elected by all the teachers in 2000. Dr. Hawang has tried her best to create an innovative atmosphere in our department. For example, she is raising funds for the facilities of teaching and researching, encouraging the academic research, taking care for the living of students and holding international conferences. These approaches made the style of our department become more vigorous, diversified and internationalized.

In the department of political science, the teachers are serious in teaching and do their utmost in researching. There have been many teachers applied for presiding over the researching projects in National Science Council（NSC）, furthermore, the entrustments in Research, Development and Evaluation Commission（RDEC）and the National Security Council. In 2000, there were eighteen researching projects in NSC presided by our teachers. Up to present, our teachers received more than 41 NSC awards. From 2000, our teachers has been publishing their researching achievements by turns in Brown Bag. The total number of papers that will be published will reach one hundred and fifty in five years.
